Initiation is our introductory event for newbies coming into the youth group. It takes place in late summer each year. Initiation is a rite of passage that propels new members into the group through a series of trust challenges and community building games. Then we finish up with fun, games, singing, and a feast.
Why do an initiation? For one, it's a lot of
fun. Also, rites of passage are important.
When Jesus called his disciples, they made a
profound leap of faith. They had to trust that
the call they answered would lead them to a
better place. Little did they know the amazing
journey they were about to embark upon. Jesus
called them to be his disciples, and he made
them fishers of men. It was their initiation.
They were now part of a unique group.
Likewise, our
new teens are becoming members of
the youth group. They have anticipated this time
for years, but they have little idea of the
journey they are about to embark upon. Life is
often a challenge, as will be the initiation.
But by learning trust, they will become valued
and cherished members of the youth group who
will help them on their journey.
Initiation will be in the Stidham's back yard on August 21 starting at 5:00 pm.
