June 17-22, 2012
Mid-Ohio Valley Workcamp is a teen service project organized to give young people an opportunity to serve God by serving others who are in need. It's also a great time of bonding and growth. It was started by area youth ministers from the churches of Christ around Parkersburg, WV in 1999. The workcamp has grown each year. Teen volunteers come from several states including Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Groups are housed in dorms at Ohio Valley University where they will have breakfast, dinner, and enjoy a nightly worship program. Lunches are served by area churches. During the days, groups travel to various worksites to scrape and paint houses, do light repair work, and beautify the house with minor yard work. Most of the houses are owned by people who are living on a limited income or by senior citizens who cannot do the work themselves.
The theme for 2012 is "iWill." Each volunteer needs to bring one 4" paintbrush and a ladder. Paint, drop cloths, buckets, and scrapers will be provided. We will also need to provide one adult for every five teens. See the sign-up poster on Grant's board for more info. The deadline to sign up is Sunday, April 1.
